ACADEMY FOR YOUNG DESIGNERS: Our Academy was born in 2016 and is the most rewarding and exciting program where all fashion students can create their own designs and parade them on the runway. All kids and teens -in order to be accepted at our Academy - must be done with at least a couple of camps and/or after school classes so they’re not beginners any longer. Academy for young designers has more advanced skills requirements.

ADVANCED SKILLS LEVEL. MY KID ALREADY KNOWS HOW TO SEW: All skills are welcome! If your child is at an INTERMEDIATE or more ADVANCED LEVEL, we’re committed to adapt to your kid’s needs and challenges with the appropriate sewing projects.

AGE: 7 to 13 (under 7 is strongly not recommended) 

ARRIVAL TIME: Summer Camp arrival for all kids everyday is at 10am. We don't have EARLY DROP OFF or LATE PICK UP services.

ASFD – AUSTIN SCHOOL OF FASHION DESIGN: Our school is an Austin original since 2007. Our school is proud to teach real basis for Fashion Design, Fashion Illustration, College Prep and Pattern making to students of all ages, all kids, teens and adults are welcome to join us all year long! We’re proud of our signature program Academy for young designers and we’re yearly focused in our busiest time of the year with our SEWING AND FASHION SUMMER CAMP for kids.

BE ON TIME. PUNCTUALITY. TARDINESS: All kids will be done and ready to be picked up at 3pm. All parents picking up their children 15 minutes will be charged a tardiness FEE of $25.00 – increasing the fee by 15 minutes = $25.00

CAMP COVERAGE/INSURANCE. WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO GET COVERAGE OR INSURANCE. TO SAVE YOUR SPOT FOR ONLY $25.00. AND INSURANCE FOR $50.00  

WITH ASFD INSURANCE:

• Make a one change to your registration.
• Modify your registration once, up to 48 hours prior to the start of your scheduled session.
• Move your registration to a future class or camp or leave as a credit if you are unsure of a date. *May be subject to extra charge depending on the price of the new selected class/camp.
• Transferable to another student if you are unable to attend class.
• Camp Registrations: If student gets sick during the week of camp, unused days can be credited to a future camp.
• While a one-time change or cancellation is permitted, your registration is nonrefundable.

WITHOUT ASFD CAMP INSURANCE 2023:

• No cancellations
• Non-transferable
• No switching dates
• No switching camp types
• No switching camp locations
• Cannot be left as a credit

CONSENT FOR PICTURES AND VIDEO RELEASE: ASFD proudly uses social media and our website to connect with those in our community. You as a guardian/parent of a child will be asked to give ASFD permission to connect with and/or use your / your child's name or likeness on our website or social media channels and/or some promo material, specially pictures and posters located at our ASFD Studios. Please consider allowing your kid to participate, because children feel left out when not being part of the fun group activities, including videos or picture taking, which are part of the creation of a sense of community that we care for as part of our philosophy.

CHILD DOESN’T KNOW HOW TO SEW: We’re welcoming beginners with no experience! In one week of Summer Camp your kid will learn how to sew with the sewing machine finishing their first basic projects.

DRINKS/LUNCH/SNACKS: Kids must bring their own lunch/snacks/drinks. Our studio is a NO WASTE environment, therefore all students must take back all leftovers and all packaging or waste related with their snacks and drinks. LUNCH will happen always at NOON. Food and Drinks are not allowed in any table of our studio. (Only designated areas during LUNCH TIME)

EVENT. FASHION SHOW: All Summer Campers are expected to be part of our big celebration with a fabulous Fashion Show at the end of their weekly camp, every Friday at 2.30pm.

FABRICS. WHAT TO BRING: We provide all fabrics. We provide everything!! All supplies, all tools & Bernina sewing machines!

PROJECTS. WHAT KIDS WILL LEARN: Fashion illustration: all basic principles of fashion illustration, vocabulary, proportion, clothing, coloring and more! Learn how to sew: kids will finish signature #ASFD projects plus brand new ones, as well: Intro to sewing with basic principles and safety, cell phone pocket, ASFD Monster, Make a wallet, make a FACEMASK, make an apron, bandana skirt, handbag, ASFD backpack, summer dress, jumpsuit and much more! 

PROVIDE SUPPLIES: We do provide all supplies, all tools and all sewing machines!

REFUNDS: All registrations are nonrefundable with no exceptions. Adding INSURANCE will always be the best choice to protect your investment, in case of sickness, traveling, etc.Read about INSURANCE.

REPEATING PROJECTS: Kids will follow a progression of projects based on skills. They will repeat them only when they want to, or if they need to practice something specific to reinforce sewing techniques.

REQUIREMENTS: All beginners are welcome! All skill levels are welcome!

RETURNING DISCOUNTS: Ask for sibling discounts! Ask for returning discounts, when you want to do more than week!

SCISSORS: We provide all tools such as scissors and everything else! You don’t need to buy anything.

SEWING: All kids any age and any skill level will learn how to sew properly with a professional sewing machine.

SEWING MACHINES: We provide all sewing machines. No worries! No hidden fees no rental fees.

SUMMER CAMP LENGTH: All our Summer Camps 2023 are a weekly program. Starting every Monday to Friday from 10.00am to 3.00pm

WHAT ARE MY KIDS GOING TO LEARN: Kids will learn how to sew and the principles of Fashion Illustration. All young Fashionistas will complete fun sewing projects aiming to create a solid foundation and building skills with our Bernina sewing machines, practicing safety and fundamentals.

WHAT ARE MY KIDS GOING TO MAKE: Kids will learn how to sew finishing very simple projects to begin with and they will keep working on more sophisticated ones as the week progresses. Projects such as: cell phone pocket, wallet, roll up pencil case, facemasks, ASFD Monster, apron, handbag, bookmark, and bracelet all for Beginners. Intermediate level kids will finish bandana skirt, backpack, gathered skirt, pajamas, sundress, etc. More advanced kids will finish a romper, 3 tier skirt, dresses, and more wearable garments.

WHAT WILL MY KIDS BRING HOME: Your kids will take home a bunch of finished projects the very first week! From the most basic piece to a wearable beginner-skill item such as an APRON. The more focus and interest, the more finished projects! Every student will bring home every Friday a folder full of their Fashion Illustration work.
